Political Composition of the Parliament of Zimbabwe
The Constitution of Zimbabwe provides for the election of 360 Members of Parliament. Parliament consists of the Senate and the National Assembly and each has 80 and 280 Members of Parliament respectively. Members of Parliament perform legislative, representative and oversight functions. They are elected for a 5 year term which runs from the date on which the President-Elect is sworn in and assumes office. Parliament stands dissolved at midnight on the day before the first polling day in the next general election. Below is the current breakdown of seats across both houses:
